Lizard Ales – An Gof Strong Ale

Brewed to commemorate An Gof, the St Keverne Blacksmith who led the Cornish Revolt of 1497. An Gof was defeated in London by Henry VII’s army, whilst leading the revolt against unfair taxes. He was Hanged, Drawn & Quartered on Tyburn hill but defiant to the end declared that he and his followers would share a ‘fame permanent & immortal.’ He wasn’t far wrong as 525 years later his name lives on in this excellent ale. An Gof is brewed using a complex mix of malts. Maris Otter, Crystal, Chocolate and Smoked Malts plus Fuggles and Goldings hops.
