St Austell Brewery – Proper Black IPA

A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma..’ No apologies for stealing that line from our greatest leader but the line aptly describes Proper black to a tee. Pour it into a glass and you could be excused for thinking it was guinness – maybe someone mislabelled the Mena Dhu? Nope, take a sip and your opinion will change in an instant. A riot of flavours ensues, the taste is classic IPA with but a malt backdrop. Hops dominate but chocolate and coffee notes follow relentlessly. There is an eastern European feel to this multifaceted beer.
