- Tasting notes
India Pale Ale or IPA was originally developed as a strongly hopped, slightly higher ABV pale ale for export to the colonies, India in particular. At the request of The East India Company in the late 1800s, India Pale Ale was developed by several London brewers specifically for export. (Hops have an antibacterial effect over less desirable microorganisms in the beer and coupled with a higher alcohol volume allowed the beer to survive the journey from The south of England to Asia.)
